Images on this page have been used with permission, compliments of TD Yandt (owner of Shirelings Rattery), and Tamara (owner of sisters to my Shirelings Girls and an awesome rat-lover who transported the girls from Saskatoon to Moose Jaw for me). The Shirelings Girls came into my life Thursday, August 19,2004.

You can see Bella and Took's babies growing up by following the link at the bottom of this page.

In keeping with the theme of this Rattery I used The Hobbit Name Generator to find the girls' Hobbit names. Another Name Generator revealed more elaborate names.

The colors of the girls have been identified by Phenotype with the use of the website RatStuff.

Buttons
9 weeks old
SHR Bachalor's Buttons "Buttons"
Hobbit Names: Mara Bramble of Willowbottom
Clucla Oldbuck of the Bree
aka Buttons n' Bows
Born: April 12,2004
Shown here 18 weeks old
American Blue Irish Velveteen Dumbo Doe
Buttons is the lightest color of the three Blue girls

Personality: Buttons' personality falls somewhere in between her comical sister, Daisy, and her shy sister, Potta. I see Buttons as the conservative, responsible type. The one who has a sensible head on her shoulders in keeping her other two sisters out of trouble. Buttons is a very affectionate, outgoing girl.
From running on a wheel, Buttons seems very aware that she has a tail. She doesn't carry it as in wheel tail, but she uses it in ways that I haven't seen a rat use it's tail before. Curling and uncurling it at will, wagging her tail, etc.
Note the ridge down her back. It's the same as what Natty has, only Button's ridge is wider.

Daisy
5 weeks old
SHR Shasta Daisy "Daisy"
Hobbit Names: Berylla Bramble of Willowbottom
Lulonna "Proudfoot" Thorny of Fair Downs
aka Daisy Fresh
Born: April 12.2004
Shown here 18 weeks old
Russian Blue Veriberk w/Headspot Velveteen Dumbo Doe
Daisy is the darkest color of the three Blue girls

Personality: Daisy has already revealed her sense of humor and the comic side of her personality. While giving her scritches in the corner of the cage, she did a little popcorn and bumped her head on the spout of the water bottle. Daisy is a very outgoing, friendly girl, and continues to check my hands over and over again, for treats of course.
From running on a wheel, Daisy seems very aware that she has a tail. She doesn't carry it as in wheel tail, but she uses it in ways that I haven't seen a rat use it's tail before. Curling and uncurling it at will, wagging her tail, etc

Pituitary Tumor

Potter
9 weeks old
SHR Potted Violets "Potter"
Hobbit Names: Wisteria Bramble of Willowbottom
Aludda "Proudneck" Pickthorn of Westmarch
aka Potta
Born: April 12,2004
Shown here 18 weeks old
Russian Blue Blazed Veriberk Velveteen Dumbo Doe
Potta is the medium color of the three Blue girls

Personality: Potta is very shy and not at all sure about her new surroundings. The only time I've been able to pet her is when she is hiding her head in the blankets and only her bum is exposed, otherwise she runs to her hut to hide. She is an awfully sweet little girl and I'm sure time and patience will help her come out of her shell.
You can see by her tail that Potta is wheelly nuts and she carries her tail in this way most of the time. Too funny
RIP Potta November 06,2005
Uterine Tumor

Their bodies held in storage in the freezer, awaiting this day,
the Shireling Girls were cremated, their ashes mingled,
and returned to me, January 22,2009
